Developing people for NPD teams, today and tomorrow
Length: 11 Pages; 1 Diagram
The adoption of cross functional teams has in recent years become widely recognized as one of the key principles of effective and productive New Product Development (NPD); and when successful, one of the main factors that distinguishes top innovators.
However, the key proviso, as suggested, is making team working a success. The reality is that even good team working structures and practices, and ultimately a team’s performance, will always be significantly influenced – hindered or enhanced – by both individual behavior, which can often appear unpredictable and irrational, and complex group interactions. This is why within most companies, every example of good team working can be countered by examples where the team has badly underperformed.
